Wake & Walk

This morning I needed all my back-up alarms to keep me awake after five hours sleep. I didn’t listen to my book or do my puzzles. Instead I laid in bed with my eyes closed hitting snooze on my phone every 15 minutes from 4 am to 4:45 am when I finally got my feet on the floor and made the matcha.

Pat texted about an hour later that he was on his way for our walk. The temperature was just below zero and my driveway was a little slippery, but the road was very good going for the most part. We did the full 20 minute loop to the end and back, which was exhilarating and got my heart pumping.

Slippery Going

I made one trek over to Mom and Dad’s a bit later to drop off some tupperware and by then the going was kind of treacherous. The warm temperatures melted the snow on the driveway leaving a block of ice. I walked on the snowbank where I could. Later I got Pat to come down and salt everywhere. Hopefully tomorrow morning it will be okay.

Delicious Beginnings

After our walk, I was starving, so I made breakfast and ate a bit earlier than normal. I started the day with avocado toast for a change and later I had a Factor meal and made a salad. I tried the new spicy ranch dressing, which was really good. I want to start making my own dressings and maybe growing my own sprouts, but I’m not there yet, still in the thinking/ planning stage, easing back to whole food.

Work is my Play

One of the girls had an appointment so she didn’t come into work until after lunch, which left me to look after the team’s inbox. It was super busy with responses to our all-staff meeting invitation. When she returned after lunch, we got into a call where I helped her with something and filled her in on things she missed. And then my day was done quick as it started, leaving me feeling like I hadn’t accomplished much of what I planned.

Tomorrow I will be in meetings for over half the day, so this evening I logged on for a couple of hours and did some work. I actually like to do this from time to time. I can accomplish more in one hour when it’s just me than sometimes a whole day when everyone is online.

Calming Mind

Getting a head start on something or catching up gives me peace of mind, alleviates stress, helps me to sleep better, and all I miss out on is mindlessly watching television for a few hours. It’s a win-win and I never hesitate to boot up and do some work anytime I’m feeling a little anxious about a project or having too many things on the go.

I’m actually very fortunate because I love my work and I love the people I get to work with every day. I’ve been fortunate most of my adult life in this regard, once we got past the awkward 20’s where I tried on multiple career options and had some not so great experiences. For the better part of my working life I have done exactly what I love doing with the very best people you’d ever want to meet and know. Lucky!
