Rough-ish

We had a really good weekend, despite kind of a rough start on Friday night. Pat left a little after 7 pm to get his son, ended up at the after-hours clinic, and didn’t come back. I stayed up well after midnight and into the wee hours despite having gotten up at 4 in the morning that day. I blew past tired and into over-tired and easily could have stayed up beyond the 20+ hours that I actually did before going to bed.

Restfulness

Saturday morning I still woke around 8:30, but lazed in bed until 12:30 listening to Prince Harry’s audiobook, doing my New York Times puzzles, browsing social media, and filling shopping carts at both Walmart and Superstore. Pat came down early in the afternoon and we watched TV before I showered and got ready to go for our grocery run in town.

I bought all the fixings to make my own salads this week including things I normally wouldn’t buy like bottles of salad dressing, dried cranberries and raisins. I feel like I’m easing into the food, following my taste buds, not forcing any particular diet. And I got bananas, apples and strawberries because I felt like having them, not just because I am inching toward ticking point number two off my list.

I still have Factor meals coming on Tuesday and I think the following week as well and then I have cancelled them. I will be well and truly sick of mushroom risotto by then I’m sure.

After we got the grocery orders, we picked up a couple of pitas I had ordered at Pita Pit. We don’t normally get Pita Pit, despite really enjoying their food. I got a smoothy for the first time. It was refreshing for the ride home. After I unpacked all the groceries, we heated our pitas and watched TV. I forgot how much I love Pita Pit and Quesada, healthier alternatives to burgers and fries. Need to remember this more often.

We started a new Harlan Coben limited series called Fool Me Once on Netflix. We still have two more episodes left for next weekend, but it’s very good! It’s fun to try and figure out what is going on. We started it Saturday night, continued through Sunday, and we still have two episodes left for next weekend.

Return to Self

Sunday morning Pat got up and went to church. I lazed in bed listening to Prince Harry recall days of service in the army while doing my puzzles and paint by numbers. When I finally got up and had my matcha, I thought Pat might be back soon so I started making a hot breakfast.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve cooked a big hot breakfast on a Sunday morning. It’s probably not been since I left my apartment and likely it had been awhile already when I moved.

I made a tofu scramble with mushrooms, onions, red peppers, spinach, and tomatoes, garlic herb little potatoes and toast with jam, garnishing the plate with one fresh strawberry. It was so delicious! And filling! I could have gone the rest of the day without eating another thing, although I did have a Factor meal for a late supper. I have a little leftover for Monday morning too, which will be enjoyable.

Resiliency

All in all, this weekend was pretty great, despite only consistently maintaining about half of my list 8/15.

I feel like I’m coming back to mself. I am in the zone again. This is the place I was last spring when we went on strike. This is the place I was last fall when they made me go back to the office. Those valleys were so deep and long and dark I pretty much lost most of the year.

I’m enjoying this mountain climb and I can see the peak in the distance. I know another valley will come along, but I’m enjoying this journey and hopefully developing the resilience I need to support me through the valley so I can quickly emerge on the other side and ascend again.
