“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

Edith Sitwell

Awake at 4 again this morning, despite going to bed a bit later last night because I took time to write a detailed blog post. And when you get up at 4 am, late means shortly after 9 pm. Sometimes I don’t even know who I am anymore. I used to love the night, the darkness … and I guess maybe I still do if I’m this comfortable rising so early in the middle of the winter.

I finished listening to Melissa Anderson’s biography, which I would only recommend if you were truly a fan of Little House because there really isn’t much insight into anything else except her feelings about the various storylines she enjoyed. Still, if you’re a fan, you might enjoy the nostalgic look back.

I started Prince Harry’s book Spare now. It’s already much more interesting and I’m only about 30 minutes into it, the day his mother died. I remember that Sunday morning so well, arriving home in the early morning daylight after a long night of drinking and sitting entranced by the unfolding coverage on the television. Mom sitting on Dad’s chair in her old burgundy coloured housecoat. It was an unbelievably sad ending to her story. I’m looking forward to getting into Harry’s story.

Pat and I had a bit of a rough walk this morning. He overslept, but came to walk anyway despite the biting snow and roads not being plowed. It was difficult going and though we didn’t walk as far Fitbit clocked more zone minutes and a bit longer time out in the snow. He is exhausted from not sleeping this week and he works until 10 tonight so I don’t know if there will be a walk with him tomorrow morning or if I am brave enough to go on my own. There are some large wild animals around, maybe a bobcat and maybe a wolf. Even the deer are scary if they’re running around like ninnies. Cross that bridge as it comes.

I’ve begun to work on my evening routine. I feel like I’m doing well with the morning. I have things that are deeply ingrained now, like making my matcha first and getting up super early and even making my bed. I have been doing these things consistently for awhile now and they do set up my day for success.

I’ve started some personal spa-like evening activites. It’s early days, but so far I’m feeling good about it.

Another stellar day overall. The best day for the checklist thus far 14/15, 93% … all I need to do is pump up the fruits and veggies and I’ll start to soar. Almost there … not that my diet is too terrible right now. I am eating vegan/vegetarian prepared meals from Factor, packaged salad kits, soups, toast, potato patties, bagels with cream cheese and things like that, but maybe on the weekend I will dive into bananas, oatmeal, brussel sprouts, and more. I am almost ready to level up again.
