“Winter is a season of recovery and preparation.”

Paul Theroux

When I woke up this morning I couldn’t tell that it was minus 25 degrees outside. My bed was cozy, and even the floor felt normal beneath my feet as I padded to the kitchen to boil the kettle and turn the heaters up from sleeping time temperatures to awake time temperatures.

I like to allow the boiling water to cool for a good 20 minutes before I make my matcha. It tastes better at a drinkable temperature, and when I make it with the super hot water it tends to give more grassy scent and clump when I stir. So I set the kettle to boil and return to bed to listen to an audio book while I complete the Wordle and other New York Times daily puzzles. Then I do a guided meditation using the Balance app. About an hour later I start my grooming and prepping for the day. I make my bed right before I make my matcha. And this week I’m also making coffee. I had gone off coffee a bit for about two months, lost the taste for it, but it’s back now. Just one cup, black, dark roast, pour over.

My work day begins at 8 am, so if I don’t wake very early there isn’t much time to do more. Before I got sick I was waking at 4 am, so there was time to write in the mornings, work on blog posts and journaling. I want to get back there, but it’s not happening this week. I am guarding my sleep, making sure I have time for 7 or 8 hours rest if I want them.

Pat has been stopping in during the evenings to watch reality television, but mostly Coronation Street. Another man that I’ve got hooked on my favourite soap.

My journey back to full health and wellness continues to chug along. Holding at 73%, 11/15.
